Web 2.0 is the term used to describe the shift from using the internet merely as an information retrieval tool to using it as a way to collaborate and interact. Web 2.0 focuses on user generated content. The term includes both fully user driven sites (social networks and wikis) as well as sites that include only a small degree of user generated content (Amazon.com's review feature). Web 2.0 is the "cutting edge of the internet" so to speak. It uses the same techniques as advanced web design but appies them in more creative and imaginitive ways. This allows web pages to change on the fly to suit the needs of both the users and the owner of the site. All users have a hand in shaping the site (or just a portion of it) to help it reach its full potential. Web 2.0 also allows those without previous experience to create, edit and manage websites through a number of different content management systems and databases. |
